Each group aimed to 'persuade' the rest of the year group that their team's F1 car design and overall concept would best represent our school in the F1 in Schools regional competition. ![]() Yn trafod ein syniadau ni. Discussing ideas. We worked in our groups to discuss what we would like to include in our scripts and Powerpoint presentations. We had to make sure that each member of the team had dialogue to say and would contribute to the presentation. We also had to ensure that our dialogue matched the accompanying slides of the Powerpoint presentation. In our scripts, we aimed to give the audience information about: our team name, logo and brand image, our team roles: who will do what job, our car design: its special features and overall design, our ideas for sponsorship, our team uniform designs, and why we think our team would best represent the school in the F1 regional competition. We were writing our scripts for a real purpose and a real audience. ![]() Yn defnyddio'r cyfrifiadur i baratoi Powerpoints We used many IT skills to create our 'F1 in Schools' Powerpoint presentation. We had to choose a suitable font and background colour for our slides. We had to make decisions about slide layout, animations, transitions and other effects. We also had to scan examples of our F1 work in order to insert them into our Powerpoint presentations. We used the I-Pads to take photographs and inserted them into our presentation. ![]() The 'Supreme Sharks' practise their presentation. After completing our scripts and Powerpoint presentations, we spent time in class rehearsing our presentations. We had to make decisions about where we would stand and who would navigate through the presentation slides. We also had to think carefully about other aspects of our presentation such as speaking clearly and with expression, establishing eye contact with the audience, using gesture and facial expression to enhance our presentation and perhaps most importantly of all how we would 'persuade' our audience that our team would best represent the school in the F1 regional competition. Some of our groups used music and sound effects to enhance our presentations. The J.L.Boom presentation, for example, begun with the Top Gear theme music and an explosive sound effect! ![]() Team J.L.Boom give their explosive presentation. Finally the day of the presentations arrived! On Friday morning each F1 team gave their presentation to the whole of Year 6 and the Year 6 teachers! We were all nervous but strangely excited about standing up in front of our peers to deliver our presentations. There was a lot at stake! The two groups in the year group who scored the highest marks for their presentations would go on to represent Llangewydd in the regional Formula One in Schools competition. After each group's presentation, every team would award them a mark out of ten based on criteria such as the effectiveness of the presentation and the potential of their car design. Which groups would best represent the school in the competition? ![]() The 'Golden Eagles' present their ideas to Year 6. Every group gave interesting, creative and entertaining presentations to the year group. The audience listened carefully and were impressed by the high quality of the presentations, car designs and brand ideas. Some of the groups had their own mottos, slogans and catchphrases. Many groups had imaginative ideas such as Emily's group who began their presentation with a James Bond-style villain stroking a cat and saying, 'Year 6....I have been expecting you!' All the teachers agreed that the presentations were of a very high standard with pupils speaking clearly and with expression. Each group certainly worked hard to persuade us that they would be the best team to represent Llangewydd in the F1 in Schools competition. ![]() J.L.Boom's explosive logo! It was soon time to count up the scores and to reveal which two teams had been chosen to represent the school in the F1 in Schools competition. It was a close run thing with several teams in the year group vying for the top spot. But we are delighted to reveal that the first two teams past the chequered flag were not one but two of J11's teams - J.L.Boom and the Supreme Sharks! Congratulations to Dafydd, Alfie, Tryfan, Robbie, Josh and Louis (Team J.L.Boom) and Shannon, Aliyah, Mia, Phoebe and Paiton (Team Supreme Sharks). Llongyfarchiadau i bawb! Now the hard work really begins as the two teams will prepare to manufacture and customise their cars in preparation for the big competition. The F1 story continues.......
