The Great Crisp Survey - Yr Arolwg Creision Mawr
In Maths this week, we have been interpreting data. We have learnt how to find the mode (the most frequent), the median (the middle number when all the data is put in order), the mean (the total number divided by the number of items of data given) and the range (the difference between the highest and the lowest) of different sets of data.

In the Great Crisp Survey, each group was given ten packets of a brand of crisps. We had a 'Walkers' group, a 'Hula Hoops' group, a 'Monster Munch' group and a 'Tesco's own brand' group. Each group had to carefully count how many crisps were in each of their ten packets. We then recorded our results on a data collection sheet. Once we had collected our data (counted how many crisps were in each of the ten packets), we worked within our groups to calculate the mode, the median, the mean and the range of our data.

Each group then shared their collected data and calculated the mode, median, mean and range of the data for each of the four brands of crisps. We did this accurately and used a calculator well to calculate the mean number of crisps per packet for each brand. We then compared our investigation findings. On average, we found that there were more crisps in packets of Walkers crisps than in any of the other brands of crisps. We all enjoyed applying our data handling skills in a practical problem-solving context and eating a few crisps along the way!! Creision flasus iawn!!
