Dyma Mr. Curtis yn siarad am 'Arwyr'.
Writing Poetry with Mr. Curtis from Bryntirion Comprehensive School. Ysgrifennu barddoniaeth gyda Mr. Curtis o Ysgol Gyfun Bryntirion.
Today Mr. Curtis, an English teacher at Bryntirion Comprehensive School, came to Llangewydd to help us write some poetry for this year's cluster of schools Eisteddfod competition. It was great fun. He explained that this year's poetry title is 'My Welsh Hero'. After watching the 'Lynx' TV advert where a lady is rescued from a fire by a heroic fireman only to run into the arms of an astronaut wearing 'Lynx' deodrant, we spent some time discussing the qualities and characteristics of a hero - what makes someone truly heroic? We had all sorts of ideas such as courage, selflessness, perseverance.....

Mr. Curtis was impressed by how much we already knew about poetry. He explained that in our poems he wanted us to use similes and metaphors to build up images of our Welsh hero. For example, if our hero was a drink, what drink would he or she be? Why? If our hero was like a musical instrument, what instrument would he or she be like? Each line of our poem would have to use similes to compare our hero to something else using 'like' or 'as' OR metaphors to describe our hero as if he or she 'were' something else. We had a go at writing down some ideas on draft paper.

Next week we will continue working on our 'Welsh Hero' poems in class and will send them up to Bryntirion Comprehensive School to be judged for the feeder schools' Eisteddfod poetry competition. Diolch yn fawr iawn i Mr. Curtis am ddod i Langewydd i ddysgu ni. Thanks very much to Mr. Curtis for coming to teach us some poetry writing skills. Good luck in the Eisteddfod competition. Pob lwc yn y cystadluaeth Eisteddfod.
